Our Team

The Technology & Innovation office (TIO) is leading the charge of empowering innovative analytics at scale with a goal to harmonize Teradata architectures & capture value from long-term technology trends. To do this, the Technology, Research and Innovation Team (TRI) within TIO seeks a technology enthusiast with a discovery mindset. As a member of the team, you will work collaboratively to evaluate, test, and innovate on a variety of initiatives using new technologies in areas such as cloud and data science.  You will help design enterprise level initiatives; lead, build, and coordinate technology proof of concepts (POCs); identify new technology trends in the areas of database and advanced analytics; and drive academic reseach and innovation into our product pipelines. 

Your Opportunity

As the Research & Innovation Director, reporting to the Sr. Director of TRI, your objective is to manage the technical research and innovation programs for our academic partners, implement and maintain an academic research community of practice.  You will ensure our innovation ideation process is maintained and our technology assessment process is well executed. In addition, you will help implement an evaluation process for technology and research ideas,  help coordinate proof of concept prototypes for selected technologies, help support TIO architects and engineers to integrate new technologies into the existing Teradata ecosystem, and be the integration point for technology, research, and innovation tracking (actions and projects) and reporting to senior leadership.

Business Objectives would include: 

  • Create an integrated program portfolio of all research intiatives in TIO with a focus being on the academic partnerships.
  • Be the primary owner of managing our academic programs.
  • Manage the technical research and innovation program portfolio for our academic partners
  • Provide a forum for all technical leads for academic programs to provide updates and reports on academic programs.
  • Work with project managers to provide direction, requirements, and help to define scope on key Technology and Innovation Office’s (TIO) initiatives.
  • Be able to coordinate and lead technical discovery workshops/initiatives at an organizational level and create recommendations to enable optimization and efficiencies in how we operate as an organization.
  • Be a critical member of TRI by coordinating the investigation of new ideas/technologies, working with innovative customers, academic researchers and startups (partnership/M&A).
  • Provide support to innovation and research initiative and POC teams
  • Present reports defining research and innovation initiatives’ progress, problems and solutions
  • Provide initiative outcomes, evaluations, and assessment of results
  • Support the Senior Director of Technology, Research and Innovation (TRI) in the coordination and management of new opportunities and technologies aligned with Teradata strategy and ecosystem
  • Assure that the project managers provide weekly updates and reports to the TRI Senior Director on outcomes, progress, risks, and issues on tasks, projects, risks, intiatives and activities

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years experience in managing research porfolios (academic experience a plus)
  • 7+ years of experience in project management with a desired capability in Agile/Scrum methodologies.
  • Capability to manage an integrated portfolio of actions and projects with different requirements (organizational projects to proof of concept projects)
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-organizational activities.
  • Effective at meeting deadlines and providing information to senior management of outcomes on a regular basis
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to lead through influence
  • Be a collaboration partner with all groups and organizations within Teradata.
  • Ability to coordinate with staff that are distributed globally.

Desired Education

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline. MS degree desired.
  • 2 years of combined technical and relevant program management or engineering management is required for this role.
  • Relevant certifications are desirable.
