What You'll Do 

In this role, you will Serve as the Company’s sales/use tax subject matter expert and point of contact.  You will work closely with various teams within Teradata, such as Products, Sales, Billing and Order Management, to effectively identify sales tax categories / issues and accurately report sales and use tax.  Your supervision of all facets of sales and use tax issues and compliance coordination with an external outsource provider will ensure that Teradata meets all sales and use tax compliance, reduce tax exposure and be tax audit ready. 

  • Manage tax compliance processes with external outsource provider (Vertex) to ensure accurate tax payment and timely filed returns, including assessment/completion of amended returns to seek refund claims for excess credit generated, as required 
  • Manage the functionality of OneSource tax determination tool and work with Teradata technical team as well as external service providers to ensure tool is operating optimally, which also include managing tax exemption certification to ensure current status is properly reflected in the Oracle ERP / tax engine and maintain expertise knowledge of state requirements to provide guidance to associates and external customers  
  • Keep current with sales/use tax laws, regulations, updates and tax issues pertinent to Teradata to help identify and determine opportunities for process improvements or tax saving opportunities and solutions 
  • Completely monthly review of purchasing to validate use tax determination and liabilities, including verifying the accuracy of sales/use tax balances through monthly general ledger reconciliation process and reviewing new assets to ensure that tax obligations have been met and audit risks are eliminated 
  • Manage, coordinate and negotiate state and local sales/use tax audits, which includes management of all compliance documentation to ensure audit readiness and timely identify potential audit risks  
  • Assure current and accurate tax matrices are maintained in the Oracle ERP system using Thomson Reuters OneSource matrices including managing taxability category for all new products through knowledge of Teradata products and services  
  • Define and implement specific tax related requirements for cross-functional teams to ensure compliance of sales and use tax reporting 

Who You'll Work With 

You will be joining our US Corporate Tax team to serve the US territory in the sales and use tax area (and some indirect tax filing, as needed).  In addition to our tax team members, you will have the opportunity to work with Products, Sales, Billing and Order Management teams at different stages in your day-to-day activities as the tasks require.  You will report to the Senior Tax Director, and Corporate Tax Manager will also be there to help guide and provide relevant support. 

What Makes You a Qualified Candidate 

  • BS/BA degree in Accounting/Business or related field 
  • 6+ years of related corporate tax 
  • Thorough technical knowledge of sales and use tax rules and regulations and their application 
  • Experience working with sales tax software platforms (OneSource) and ERP systems (Oracle Fusion) 
  • Experience in software/technology industry a plus 
  • Experience working with outside compliance vendor a plus

Pay Rate: $101,600.00 - $127,000.00 - $152,500.00 Annually

Starting pay for the successful applicant will depend on geographic location, internal equity, job-related knowledge, skills, and candidate experience. Sales roles will be eligible for commission payments tied to quota achievement. All other permanent roles will be eligible for one of our annual incentive plans, which are based on company financial attainment and individual performance.
