Position Overview 

 

The Application Architect (AA) with a focus on SAS is an expert architect, able to translate business strategy, requirements and constraints into a coherent technology strategy and roadmap, and able to act as technical advisor to service delivery teams.  The AA is responsible for working with account teams to develop a client-specific architecture and an associated account plan that exceeds client requirements for optimization and education, which helps to win new business for Teradata and grows the consumption of Teradata software in our accounts.  A senior and seasoned technology professional, the AA is a trusted advisor with a broad understanding of both the Teradata platform, and the SAS ecosystem (including both traditional SAS and SAS Viya), the analytic technology landscape, industry trends and client motivations.  The AA is also an able communicator and expert consultant, capable of going toe-to-toe with the C-level in our customers and prospects and willing and able to constructively challenge them. While being able to communicate with data scientists/analysts to address analytical lifecycle issues that may involve the utilization of both Teradata and SAS capabilities. 

 

Job Specification 

 

Successful candidates will: 

 

  • Become a trusted advisor to both the client’s senior decision makers and the Teradata account team by establishing credibility and expertise in both analytics strategy in general and in the use of analytic technology solutions to optimize SAS performance across a wide range of industries
  • Engage with senior business leaders to understand and shape their goals and objectives and their corresponding information needs and analytic requirements.
  • Provide strategic consulting to client decision makers that enable them to define technology plans to meet-and-exceed these goals and objectives by effectively leveraging data and analytics.
  • Work with Teradata account teams to define, develop and document target business, information and analytic application architectures, roadmaps and standards that are aligned with both the customer’s business and IT objectives.
  • Contribute to the financial objectives of Teradata account teams through business development, demand creation, account planning and the increase of consumption.
  • Participate in the development and curation of assets that improve the performance and effectiveness of the Teradata account teams, including demonstrations, proofs of concept, proofs of value, etc.
  • Provide thought leadership and share their hard-won skills and experience with peers and colleagues throughout the organization and the customer groups.
  • Work with SAS employees in collaboration efforts to further the integration of Teradata and SAS products and applications.

 

Candidate Profile 

 

Successful candidates must - 

  • Demonstrate the ability to think strategically and have a keen interest in and understanding of in-database analytics, with a focus on the SAS toolsets / applications.
  • Be an exceptional communicator and consultant with a proven ability to lead from the front and to influence and persuade at the C-level, but also be able to build up increasing support from the data science community.
  • Have at least 5 years hands-on experience in architecting, designing, delivering, or optimizing Data Warehouse and/or Data Lake solutions, with a specific focus on using advanced analytics at scale.
  • Demonstrate relevant domain expertise in at least one industry vertical (e.g.: Retail, Finance) or one horizontal (e.g.: Supply Chain), but also have a broad understanding across verticals and horizontals (or be willing to rapidly gain those skills).
  • Possess exceptional problem-solving, organizational, and people skills.
  • Continuously develop their own consulting and technology skills and ensure that they stay abreast of relevant industry developments, including the emergence and evolution of new analytic solutions and technologies.
  • Develop and mentor colleagues and peers throughout the organization.
  • Be comfortable leading geographically diverse teams.
  • Be comfortable developing and presenting material to internal audiences as well as a wide range of external audiences.

Successful candidates will preferably - 

  • Have a background in technology consulting and relevant pre-sales experience.
  • Be intimately familiar with Teradata’s technology and how it can interact with SAS code and other solutions.
  • Be familiar with analytics at scale including automation of the analytics life cycle.
  • Have experience of architecting, designing, and implementing Cloud-based analytical solutions.
  • Have experience of architecting and implementing hybrid-based analytical solutions.
  • Be familiar with SQL, SAS (including CASL), and Python and at least one other relevant programming language.
  • Have a bachelor’s degree (or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience) in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline.
