Our Company

Teradata is the trusted AI and knowledge platform that connects data, business context, and AI, helping organizations move from insight to real-time action across cloud, on-premises, and hybrid environments.

We work with many of the world’s largest enterprises, including 10 of the top 10 global banks, as well as leading organizations across retail, manufacturing, healthcare, and the public sector. In APJ, we support some of the region’s largest enterprises across banking, manufacturing, retail, and government.

What You’ll Do

As a Sales Engineer, you will lead the technical work in new logo sales cycles across APJ. You will understand each prospect’s environment, design the right architecture, and run proof-of-concepts that build confidence in Teradata and support a clear commercial decision.

  • Lead technical discovery, architecture design, competitive positioning, solution validation, and technical responses throughout Growth pursuit cycles.
  • Run structured discovery sessions to identify a prospect’s current environment, business challenges, technical requirements, data volumes, query concurrency, and performance targets.
  • Develop and present tailored architecture and solution proposals that clearly demonstrate how Teradata addresses the customer’s requirements.
  • Design and deliver rigorous proof-of-concepts and benchmarks using representative customer workloads and data, managing setup, test design, execution, results analysis, and stakeholder presentation.
  • Create sandbox environments and demonstrate Compute Engine and Elastic Compute capabilities, including workload scaling, resource separation, cost efficiency, and performance across cloud and hybrid environments.
  • Respond to competitive claims with accurate, evidence-based positioning across  open-source platforms, and Google BigQuery.
  • Partner with Sales on account targeting and opportunity qualification, identifying prospects where Teradata’s technical strengths align with customer needs.
  • Build reusable reference architectures, competitive summaries, PoC frameworks, and industry-specific materials for the wider APJ and worldwide Field Technology teams.
  • Capture product feedback, capability gaps, and field insights, and communicate them clearly to Teradata Product and Engineering teams.
  • Transition won opportunities to the Enterprise account team with a complete, well-documented view of the customer environment, solution design, technical decisions, and next steps.

Success after 12 months will include contributing technically to at least three new logo pursuits, with at least one closed win; delivering a documented PoC framework for an APJ industry vertical; creating reusable assets adopted by the broader Field Technology team; and becoming a trusted technical resource for competitive sales situations.

Who You’ll Work With

You will operate within a POD structure, a small cross-functional group of Sales, Presales, and Customer Success professionals aligned to a defined group of accounts or market segment. As the primary technical voice within the POD, you will partner closely with the POD Sales Lead on commercial priorities and with the CSA Lead on technical direction, career development, and cross-territory alignment.

The role reports directly to the CSA Lead for the assigned territory or region, with a dotted-line relationship to the POD Sales Lead. You will also collaborate with Product, Engineering, Field Marketing, partners, and account teams across APJ. Won opportunities will transition to the Enterprise account team following a structured technical handover.

What Makes You a Qualified Candidate

  • Eight or more years of experience in presales, sales engineering, or solution architecture, with a strong focus on Growth motions and competitive enterprise sales cycles.
  • A demonstrated record of technical contribution to new logo wins, including completed PoCs, successful technical evaluations, and competitive deals closed.
  • Practical experience with at least one major cloud provider, AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud, together with strong knowledge of cloud-native and hybrid data platforms.
  • Hands-on SQL and Python skills, with the confidence to work in live customer environments and design, size, and deliver credible technical solutions under sales-cycle time constraints.
  • Experience supporting Growth pursuits in one or more APJ markets, including Australia, Japan, ASEAN, Korea, or Taiwan.

What You’ll Bring

  • Strong knowledge of data platform architecture, including parallel processing, lakehouse patterns, streaming ingestion, query performance, workload sizing, and benchmarking.
  • Working knowledge of Teradata compute architecture, including Compute Engine and Elastic Compute, and the ability to position workload scaling and resource separation in technical evaluations.
  • An understanding of retrieval-augmented generation architecture, embedding models, vector stores, similarity search, and enterprise large language model workflows, explained in clear customer language.
  • Experience using AI Studio or a comparable platform in customer demonstrations or PoCs, with the ability to position Enterprise Vector Store against specific business use cases.
  • A sound understanding of enterprise sales processes, including qualification, technical scoping, configuration, solution sizing, licensing, consumption models, partner ecosystems, and commercial support.
  • Clear, credible communication with technical teams and senior executives, alongside strong written skills for solution proposals, PoC summaries, and RFP responses.
  • A degree in computer science, software engineering, mathematics, data science, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience in a technical sales role.
  • Industry knowledge in one or more priority sectors, such as financial services, retail and consumer goods, public sector, or manufacturing and supply chain, including relevant procurement, regulatory, sovereignty, and analytics requirements.
