What You'll Do

In this role as a Platform Engineer at Teradata, you will:

  • Work within a shift-based rotation to maintain 24/5 platform availability, ensuring continuous coverage across time zones and responding to operational needs outside standard business hours.
  • Apply working knowledge of procedures and concepts in platform and infrastructure engineering, operating within an SRE context focused on reliability, scalability, and cost accountability.
  • Oversee, monitor, and build CI/CD pipelines, ensuring operational excellence and seamless deployments for internal customers and partners.
  • Design and implement IaC solutions using CloudFormation and CDK to automate infrastructure management and optimize cloud resources.
  • Own FinOps practices for the team's cloud footprint: track AWS and Azure spend, set budget alerts, produce regular cost reports, and drive cost reduction actions across compute, storage, and networking.
  • Design and maintain shared platform services and internal tooling that reduce operational toil and enable team self-service.
  • Use AI-assisted development tools, including Claude Code and Claude Desktop, as part of day-to-day engineering workflows. Apply AI tooling to accelerate code review, documentation, and platform automation tasks.
  • Support internal customers and partners, enabling a seamless lab experience and ensuring uninterrupted operations.
  • Establish best practices for system design, troubleshooting, and incident management, informed by SRE principles such as error budgets and SLAs.
  • Enhance system reliability by implementing observability best practices and analyzing system metrics to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Act as a key escalation point for critical operational issues, conducting root cause analysis and sharing insights to prevent recurrence.
  • Guide new team members without direct supervisory responsibilities.
  • Resolve problems by identifying and selecting solutions based on acquired expertise, guided by precedents.
  • Exchange ideas and information concisely and logically across the team and extended stakeholders.

  • We interact and coordinate within the same department and across the business to achieve Teradata's goals.
  • You will collaborate with SMEs, internal, customers, and partners to ensure seamless hands-on lab and operational experiences.
  • You will cross-collaborate with various teams during events, incidents, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • You will report to the Team Lead, SRE.

 

What Makes You a Qualified Candidate

  • A university degree with a minimum of 4 to 5 years of related experience, or an advanced degree without experience, or equivalent work experience.
  • Good understanding of cloud platforms, DevOps practices, and SRE principles.
  • Demonstrated experience with cloud cost management, FinOps tooling, or budget governance in AWS or Azure environments.
  • Comfort using AI-assisted tools such as LLM-based coding assistants in a professional engineering context.
  • Willingness and availability to work in a shift-based schedule supporting 24/5 platform operations.

  • Containerization & Orchestration: Docker, Kubernetes
  • Database Management: SQL, NoSQL, DynamoDB, Teradata Vantage
  • CI/CD Pipelines: Jenkins, GitLab CI, or similar
  • Networking & Security: Cloud networking, IAM, Cognito, best practices
  • FinOps & Cost Optimization: Cloud spend analysis, tagging governance, budget alerting, cost attribution across teams or workloads
  • Platform Engineering: Shared internal tooling, developer experience, and service reliability across a multi-cloud environment
  • AI Tooling: Practical experience with Claude Code, Claude Desktop, or similar AI-assisted development tools; ability to integrate AI workflows into platform and automation tasks
  • Support & Troubleshooting: Incident management, environment monitoring, issue resolution
  • Collaboration: Cross-functional coordination with internal customers, partners, and extended teams
