What You’ll Do
The Senior Product Manager for SQL User Experience is responsible for how humans and agents interact with data through SQL across modalities. T
This includes ownership of existing SQL IDEs, VS Code plugin, query services and natural language to SQL UX interactions. This role owns the end-to-end user experience of querying data — from first query to production workloads — ensuring that SQL remains powerful, intuitive, performant, and seamlessly integrated with emerging AI-driven and agentic capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
Product Ownership & Strategy
SQL Experience Strategy
- Define the vision for SQL UX across:
- Web-based query editors
- Native IDE integrations
- CLI
- API execution flows
- Agent-driven query generation
- Evolve SQL experiences to support AI-assisted query writing, debugging, optimization, and explanation.
AI-Augmented SQL
- Natural language to SQL experiences.
- Agent-assisted query generation and refinement.
- Query explanation in plain language.
- Guardrails and trust mechanisms.
- Feedback loops for improving AI query quality.
Cross-Layer Experience Parity
Ensure SQL UX is consistent and coherent across:
- Browser-based UI .
- Notebook environments .
- Agent interfaces .
- APIs .
- Command line .
Define experience contracts that vertical PMs must integrate with.
Performance Transparency & Trust
- Query progress visibility
- Resource consumption awareness
- Cost awareness (where relevant)
- Intelligent recommendations
- Failure recovery UX
User Experience Leadership
- Act as the product lead for UX, partnering closely with designers and content strategists to shape flows, structure, and interaction models.
- Translate user needs, research insights, and business goals into clear product requirements and experience outcomes.
- Champion simplicity, clarity, and consistency across all entry points into the product.
- Ensure experiences scale across multiple products while remaining coherent and intuitive.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Serve as the primary point of coordination for design, content, and engineering for this area of ownership.
- Drive prioritization and sequencing of work across disciplines to ensure timely and high-quality delivery.
- Collaborate with platform, infrastructure, and feature PMs to align onboarding and navigation with downstream product experiences.
- Work effectively within a matrixed organization, influencing without direct authority.
Delivery & Execution
- Write clear product requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria focused on user experience outcomes.
- Partner with engineering to balance experience quality, technical feasibility, and delivery timelines.
- Ensure design and content are integrated early and throughout the development lifecycle.
- Manage trade-offs while protecting the integrity of the user experience.
Measurement & Continuous Improvement
- Reduced time to first successful query.
- Increased SQL editor adoption across personas.
- Measurable improvements in query success rates.
- Increased usage of AI-assisted SQL capabilities.
- Consistent SQL experience across UI, IDE, and agent interfaces.

Who You’ll Work With
This PM leads the roadmap for this book of work and is responsible for day-to-day collaboration and prioritization across designers, content leads, and engineering partners to deliver high-quality user experiences.
What Makes You a Qualified Candidate
- 5–8+ years of product management experience, with significant ownership of user experience-centric products or platforms.
- Demonstrated experience owning onboarding flows, homepage experiences, or navigation frameworks.
- Strong understanding of UX principles, information architecture, and user-centered design.
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams including design, content, and engineering.
- Experience working in complex, multi-product or platform environments.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills.
