Job Title:  Teradata Database Administrator, Managed Services

Location:  Richardson (Dallas), TX

Onsite at client site

Job Duties:

Provide consulting to Managed Services customers on how to effectively setup, maintain, troubleshoot and operate the Teradata platform and database environment.   Evaluate new customer implementations of Teradata and advise on how those environments can run more efficiently and effectively through the use of Teradata operational best practices.   Install, parameterize, implement, and operate all Teradata tools and utilities.  Evaluate and characterize workload and query performance, utilize specialized Teradata tools such as TASM, and tuning parameters as required to throttle workload and improve performance. 

 

Operational responsibilities included creating database objects such as users and tables, monitoring and managing user sessions, monitoring system and query performance and tuning poorly performing queries.  The Managed Services DBA also performs space management, data access management, administers security and access profiles, and performs backup and recovery operations. 

 

This position requires prior production support experience with the ability to manage systems ranging from appliances deployed in departmental settings to mission critical, high volume, pedabyte sized, production system environments.   Ability to effectively interface with Teradata's GSO/CSO and manage service requests, incidents and problem resolution processes is required.  Candidates for this position must have experience utilizing Teradata performance data as reported through Teradata's proprietary PMCP/PDCR performance and capacity planning tool set and other Teradata performance management utilities. 

 

Position Requirements:

 

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related discipline or foreign equivalent, with a Masters degree in computer science or quality related disciplines desirable.  Ten (10) years of progressive post-baccalaureate experience is required.  This experience must include experience administering the Teradata database in a large production environment either as a customer DBA or performed as a Managed Service.  Advanced level skills related to workload analysis, characterization, tuning, and performance management is required.    Travel is generally not required as position is a long-term assignment in a specific customer location. 

 

 

Basic Qualifications:

  • 10  plus years’ experience in computer technology or related fields within the last 12 years.
  • Must have Teradata experience working as a production infrastructure, application, or development DBA.
  • BS/BA degree in Business Technology, Computer Science, or Management Information Systems, Business Administration, Math, Statistics, or Engineering.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office components and personal computers (for generating the many reports required by the customer).
  • Teradata Masters Certification.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with demonstrated experience managing and resolving work requests and change requests.

    • Linux Utilities, CRON
    • Performance Management

    • BackUp and Recovery
    • NetBackUp, NetVault, Tivoli Storage Mgmt, DSA a plus

 Preferred Qualifications:

  • System Performance tuning and capacity planning experience, including production and interpretation of PMCP/PDCR.
  • Experience with translating logical models to optimal physical models.
  • Knowledge of and experience with using Viewpoint to monitor and manage the Teradata Environment.
