Job Requisition:

The Product Engineering organization within Teradata Corporation has been turning innovative decision support technology into business results for over 30 years.  Our R&D team of analytic architects, database developers, and engineers work to understand and advance emerging technologies to invent the next wave of cutting-edge analytic data solutions.

 

Position Description/Major Responsibilities:

The selected candidate will join the Teradata Database Team and participate in the development of the Teradata Database System.  

  • Responsible for all phases of software development life cycle from software design through customer support for Teradata Database features/enhancements and customer-reported problems. 
  • Apply theoretical/practical knowledge to software design, implementation, testing, documentation, and support and maintenance activities as well as software packaging. 
  • Perform analysis of competing products and technologies, and recommend changes to close competitive gaps or to enhance competitive advantages.
  • Contributes to technical strategy, architecture, test environment, customer impact, and process improvements for Database products.
  • Contribute to the production of intellectual property (development of new algorithms or techniques). 
  • Collaborate closely with other engineering teams for end-to-end design and implementation of features
  • Provides technical leadership and drives cross-functional project teams.  Serves as mentor to junior team members.
  • Drives the prioritization, risk analysis, and actions for all product issues and deliverables. 
  • Define work breakdowns and design for scoping and schedule estimations/commitments. 
  • Contribute knowledge of emerging technologies to evaluate technical solutions.

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • U.S. Bachelor degree and 10+ years of experience Or, US Master degree with 8 years of experience Or, Ph.D. degree with 5 years of experience, specifically in Database System, Software Architecture, Object-Oriented Programming, or Enterprise-Class Web Applications Security.
  • Coursework should include at minimum discrete mathematics, software engineering, data structures and algorithms, operating systems, and computer architecture and organization, otherwise working knowledge/experience with subjects mentioned.
  • Strong Java experience with emphasis on web services, design patterns, concurrency, multithreading, JVM, and Memory Management. Strong experience in the Java Ecosystem: Struts, Spring Maven, Gradle, Ant, Junit, Spock, and JPA among many others.
  • Working knowledge of Linux and Windows development tools.
  • Relational database application or internal development with working knowledge of SQL
  • Familiar with Software Development Life Cycle and processes.
  • Experienced in developing under GIT or similar source control products
  • Strong problem-solving skills.  Strong communication skills.

 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced coursework in database systems, operating systems, parallel architecture, high-performance fault-tolerant systems, storage systems, file systems, i/o systems, web security
  • Multi-user, multi-tasking server software internals development with emphasis on concurrency and locking protocols
  • Experienced with cloud vendors (AWS, Azure, Google) with working knowledge of scalable software architectures in the cloud
  • Familiar with modern data catalog technologies such as H-Catalog, Glue, Purview, etc.
  • Proven record in completing/delivering features/products in areas mentioned above on an enterprise/system software product as the (or a) key contributor.  Must have real successful enterprise product delivery experience.
  • Provided technical consultation and counsel to product and development management and technical leadership to project teams on one or more areas above in product development.
