 Job Summary

The Product Operations Leader provides leadership for Teradata’s Product Operations team. This role serves as a direct report to the Head of Product Operations & Engagement and is responsible for establishing and maintaining Products’ operational and business processes in support of our product planning, delivery and commitments.  This position facilitates the development of business cases which include segmentation, product profitability, win/loss rates and competitive landscape.  The successful candidate will be responsible for the coordination of quarterly business reviews for cross-functional teams in product, engineering, marketing, customer service, and sales.  It establishes and provides leadership and coordination effort of current market and technology trends leveraging customers insights and analysts reports.  This role is responsible for maintaining our product portfolio and roadmaps.  The Product Operations Leader will coordinate regular reviews of priorities and roadmaps with product management, architecture, engineering, marketing and sales teams for progress against our timelines and commitments.  This role works with marketing and sales organizations for effective and coordinated product launches. In support of product management, marketing and sales, this role oversees the development of users’ personas, insights, expertise, needs, and preferred journey. 

Success depends on building rapport and credibility with multiple stakeholders across the organization at every level. The candidate must be self-driven with experience in product operations.  This person is part of a collaborative products team that assure our products and services are delivered per our commitments and timelines and that commitments have been validated for engineering capacity and architecture feasibility.

This role is responsible for driving best practices and analyses for product operations – specifically business cases; quarterly business reviews; trends; and our portfolio management.  The candidate must be proactive and drive towards completion of requirements for successful launching and maintenance of our product marketing and sales needs.   They assure our product leaders provide inputs and updates into the integrated portfolio and that business cases are updated and validated on a regular basis.  This will be done through standard and sustainable processes.

The ability to balance and influence multiple competing priorities is required. 

In addition, the candidate is required to engage with product managers, architects and field leaders to get input and incorporate feedback for the product operations deliverables.

Product Operations Roles and Responsibilities

Product Operations is integral for delivery of product and services and will be essential to providing business information/metrics for the current progress/success of the sales of our product and services.  The roles and responsibilities that fall within this organization are:

  • Ownership of the product portfolio management and product lifecycle management -  end to end ownership of the product delivery cycle.
  • Solid understanding of the product & technology strategy to guide Integration and representation.
  • Business case development and coordination with inclusion of:
    • Segmentation of our customers and target customers
    • Market analysis using Gartner, Forrester and other 3rd Party research
    • Competitive Analysis
    • Quarterly Business review framework and content aggregation
    • Win/Loss data from our sales team to measure how well we are doing
    • Market Footprint
    • Product Profitability
    • Partnership effectiveness

Key Responsibilities:

  • Owns and is accountable for Product Operations as outlined above.
  • Collaborates across product management, engineering, marketing and our field sales team to assure comprehensive understanding of our current focus and commitments.
  • Coordinates Product Managers and Architects for an integrated view of our technology and product strategy.
  • Updates Head of Product Operations & Engagement and the EVP of Products on a regular cadence to provide progress against timelines.
  • Updates leadership on a regular cadence on launch planning and other activities.
  • Collaborates with Go to Market (Sales) and Marketing for assurance our sales and marketing needs are met and complete.
  • Contributes to Product and Technology strategy from knowledge from business insights.
  • Establish a strong collaborative culture with peers and other functions within Teradata.
  • Promote a culture of success, pride, performance, discipline, and creativity
  • Lead and instill a sense of urgency to meet and exceed customer expectations.
  • Coordinate roadmap planning with product managers and stakeholders.
  • Partners with our field teams for supporting our customer account teams and our customers.

  • Experience driving coordination and aggregation of business case information.

  • Has excellent communication skills and the ability to present both business and technical information to a wide audience including customers, peers, and team.

  • Strong organizational, administrative, presentation and analytical skills
  • Proven experience of partnership with Product Management, Engineering, Marketing and Go to Market
  • Ability to present to leadership, internal teams, client companies, competitors, and industry thought leaders
  • BS in Marketing or Business, or equivalent in industry experience 
  • 10+ years of enterprise product management/operations

3+ years of staff management and/or product management leadership/experience.
