As Teradata Database Administrator, you will:
Perform the DBA related tasks in key areas of Database, Performance Management & Reporting for a variety of customers
Configure and maintain backup and recovery procedures
Be responsible for deploying best practices in the operational support of complex customer databases
Manage users and permissions based on the level of roles and security matrix
Monitoring of database performance and implementation of optimisation techniques (tuning performance (monitoring CPU usage and Disk I/O activity via Viewpoint, creating and maintaining indexes & partitioning, statistics collection, Teradata active workload management optimization)
Working at the customer’s site or remotely from either the Teradata office or home where appropriate
Incident handling and troubleshooting
Gain certification in Teradata technology as agreed with the head of the unit
Working alongside consulting teams where appropriate to ensure those teams adopt best practices to maximise robustness of deployed applications
What you need to be successful in this role:
Good communicator with the ability to communicate with stakeholders, both internal and external
Process driven, proactive attitude to maximise up time of the production environments
Database Administrator expertise preferably in Teradata technology although other technologies that will be considered include Oracle, SQL SERVER, etc.
Linux/UNIX administration and shell scripting knowledge (at least basic)
Ability to write complex and performant SQL & undertake performance tuning
Teradata maintenance experience will be a plus
Ideally knowledgeable in ITIL though not essential
Cloudera or Hortonworks maintenance experience will be a plus but not essential
