What’s the opportunity? 

We are welcoming a Senior Software Engineer to join our global team of content operation and localization experts in the Information Engineering department. In this role, you will help us work smarter through increased automation, simplify our content delivery processes, and improve the user experience. 

You will play an important role in serving our half a million users by making our product content available at the point of need, in a language they understand, to help them perform their jobs efficiently and safely as possible.  

Much of your work will be centered around automation, integration/APIs, and tools administration. Our source content is mainly developed using DITA XML standards and we publish to the web using Fluid Topics. We also translate documentation to other languages using a mix of in-house tools, machine translation, and human translators.  

Creating documentation is so much more than technical writing.   

Responsibilities 

  • Work with our Content Technology strategist to implement and test new functionality related to our digital content platform, docs.teradata.com
  • Perform administrative tasks for our content delivery portal 
  • Integrate content from DITA source into other interfaces using APIs 
  • Automate content format conversions between different markup/markdown languages and information needs
  • Work with product teams to set up and verify automated translation workflows
  • As needed, process localization packages 

Minimum Qualifications 

  • A Bachelor’s degree in software engineering, and at least five years of relevant experience
  • Advanced knowledge of modern scripting and automation languages and methods
  • Advanced knowledge of API technology 
  • Functional testing experience and ability to assure quality of own and others’ work 
  • Some experience with digital content publishing platforms or content development, with a desire to learn much more
  • Ability to organize your work efficiently, while working with multiple stakeholders and deadlines
  • Ability to drive your own learning, such as mastering a new programming language 
  • Experience troubleshooting complex tools or software issues 

Preferred Experience 

  • Familiarity with technologies such as: DITA XML, content management systems, JSON, CSS, HTML, Unicode, Neural Machine Translation, C# 
  • Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
  • Background in software testing or programming
