Position Title: Software Engineer (II)

External Description:

The Teradata Digital Marketing team is seeking a front-end web developer to be a key member of our web operations team, designing and implementing pleasant user experiences on our portfolio of our corporate websites that are mission critical for our business around the world. The primary site you will visually build and maintain components for web editors to use resides on the Kentico content management system. Not only do we need our website to be professional and creatively appealing, we strive to have interactive user experiences to keep our visitors around the world inspired and engaged with us. The successful candidate for Front-End Web Developer at Teradata will demonstrate proficiency in all aspects of the web design and implementation lifecycle and be able to learn fast, code well, and adapt to new technologies and concepts.

As a front-end developer you should be an expert at concepting and coding web experiences using HTML5, CSS3, and Javascript that work cross-browser, cross-devices. You have empathy for the end-user, are mindful of their various personas, and have excitement to deliver personalization. You will collaborate daily with various stakeholders including backend developers to ensure the best design, content, and functionality of Teradata.com. Preferred location is to be co-located with other marketing team members in San Diego, CA. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Frontend development of Teradata Digital Marketing’s content management system (Kentico) powering more than 25 global corporate websites
  • Concept, develop, modify, and implement web parts, widgets, templates, and other web components
  • Requirements analysis, produce design specifications, mockups, code, test, and support new and existing web modules, sections and experiences
  • Ensure top-notch visual and functional quality is delivered in every code release
  • Provide troubleshooting as needed and develop improvements in process and front-end code
  • Ensure web design concepts are aligned with back-end functionality, and web pages are optimized for maximum efficiency, speed, and consistency across all externally facing web pages in Teradata’s international digital ecosystem
  • Regularly review traffic and conversion data to gain insight into page performance and opportunities to optimize conversions, drive engagement, and grow leads
  • Build cutting-edge designs, implemented thru a framework such as Model-View-Controller (MVC)
  • Optimize code of web page elements for maximum speed, reusability, and scalability
  • Engage with SEO strategies to optimize pages for content, structure, and indexing
  • Conduct competitor analysis to identify gaps in our design templates and areas of opportunity
  • Support the wider digital team on various projects including design elements for digital acquisition, email, etc
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge web personalization functionality in-line with industry trends, creatively keeping us ahead to impress our visitors

Skills & Attributes

  • Enterprise Content Management Experience (Kentico, etc) and front-end web application development
  • Current knowledge of web design principles and user-interactions
  • Passionate about front-end design and proactive in staying up to date on latest web trends and best practices
  • Ability to collaborate with a geographically diverse team operating within a SCRUM/Agile environment
  • Experience in writing client-side functionality using vanilla javascript or framework
  • Expert in graphic design applications, HTML5, CSS3, and rapid prototyping
  • Fluent in responsive and adaptive design
  • Ability to multi-task, analyze, and problem solve
  • Self-starter who learns quickly and is comfortable with rapidly evolving expectations
  • SVN / GIT source control and automated build tools
  • Understanding of principles of SEO and other attributes for page performance

Basic Qualifications

  • Fluent in English with excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills
  • Must be digitally savvy and optimize with performance in mind
  • Can juggle multiple projects at the same time in a fast-paced environment
  • Willingness to participate in phone conferences at potentially inconvenient times in order to accommodate our international audiences
  • Must be self-motivated and able to work on projects independently as well as with a team
  • 5+ years direct front-end web development experience
  • HTML5, CSS3, Vanilla JavaScript implementation and development
  • Javascript frameworks such as Vue.js, AngularJS, or jQuery
  • CSS preprocessors
  • Skilled at troubleshooting front-end/client-side web code
  • Strong ability to rapidly-prototype to convey proof-of-concepts using Figma, Sketch, Photoshop, etc
  • Multi-tier web application development
  • Source control experience (SVN & GIT)
  • Agile sprint methodology
  • Web design portfolio

Preferred Qualifications

  • Using enterprise content management systems with multi-culture language localization
  • Experience with web analytics platforms, (i.e., Celebrus, Adobe Analytics/Omniture, Google Analytics and Tag Manager), comfortable pulling data and actionable insight from logs and reports (PowerBI, Tableau, etc)
  • Experience with SEO and UX tools (BrightEdge, SEMRush, CrazyEgg, HotJar, Ahrefs, Moz, etc)
  • International and geo-graphically-diverse working environment; must have sensitivities to local culture, language variations), ability to work well with—and garner support from—many different people from many different backgrounds and cultures
  • Project management tools experience (Jira, Basecamp)
  • Ability to manage multiple project stakeholders in a customer service-oriented environment
  • Must be flexible and able to think outside the box
  • Understanding of object-oriented programming concepts
  • Familiarity with Visual Studio, ASP.NET Core, C# MVC, and Web Forms
  • NPM, GitHub, Gulp, TeamCity, Resharper, Docker and micro-services
  • Content Delivery Networks (Akamai, Edgecast, etc)
  • Experience working with AJAX and API web services
