The Teradata Platform Program Manager is responsible for working closely with Product Management and key architects to help define the long term platform roadmap for the Teradata Warehouse Family, and forming/leading cross-organizational/ cross-functional teams to further define, scope, design, implement, test and deliver new Teradata Platforms with corresponding software and utilities.  Key team members include product management, hardware engineering, operating system, server management, storage, interconnect, customer services, external documentation and manufacturing. 

Program sizes range from 30 to 100+ headcount.                                                             

The key objective is to scope and commit TDE platform programs, and to deliver the program on schedule, with committed content, quality and within committed budget.

Key challenges are the ability to reconcile requirement changes, changes in vendor schedules and dependencies, organizational priority changes, and resolving issues outside of own organizations control. 

 

Key Areas of Responsibility:

  • Lead a multi-organizational team to plan and commit to program content, schedule, cost, quality and performance objectives.  Significant initiative is required to balance program requirements and deliver the required product with specified content, within schedule and cost requirements.
  • Responsible for the management and delivery of the platform program from concept approval through general customer availability - working with managers, developers, vendors, services, training, technical writers - managing all aspects of development, test, external deliveries, program budget and manufacturing introduction
  • Continually assess the capabilities of the team and infrastructure to achieve the stated objectives - being flexible, and accepting potential content and priority changes, and keeping team focused
  • Work within Teradata's defined program realization processes, but also continually identify areas where productivity, schedule, cost and/or quality can be improved
  • Work and coordinate with the manufacturing facility during product introduction and initial pilot manufacturing

The ideal candidate will have

  • Ability to plan and organize complex tasks - having ownership for multiple programs/projects simultaneously - possibly with competing people, dependencies,  equipment resources and priorities
  • Ability to accept change and very quickly re-asses schedules and impacts
  • Ability to foresee potential problems and have mitigation plans in place prior to occurrence
  • Ability to plan detailed equipment for the program, capital and expense budget planning and tracking
  • Knowledge of best practices in program management and team leadership and the knowledge/desire to continue learning and introducing new processes for improved program management and organizational efficiency
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skill
  • Knowledge of and experience with Lean/Agile development

Basic Qualifications:

  • US Permanent Residence
  • Bachelor's degree in CS, Engineering or relevant
  • 10+ years of aggregate experience in commensurate roles with progressive advancement
  • 7+ years of demonstrated experience in successful technical program management team leadership for medium to large sized teams
  • Pro-active approach in identifying and resolving issues - must understand the HW/SW/manufacturing interdependencies and needs during the planning, development, test and manufacturing introduction
  • Significant knowledge in program planning and program management practices and processes for hardware and software features/programs
  • Successful planning and execution of new product introduction into manufacturing

Preferred Qualifications:

  • HW development experience  - background in testing , HW product introduction and release
  • Knowledge in Data Warehousing environments and products
  • Computer architecture,  Operating systems ( Linux , windows)  and Database software knowledge
