External Description:

The role of the Teradata Program Manager (PGM) is to position Teradata as a trusted advisor, able to manage and sell large transformational programs that deliver client value through a roadmap of projects for Data & Analytics solutions, requiring technology, process, information and organizational changes. This level of engagement requires Teradata to combine solution selling, architecture, business consulting and program management.

Position Description

The PGM ensures that customer business value is enabled within the budgetary constraints and according to agreed timescales, while achieving high customer satisfaction. This requires definition of the program blueprint, roadmap, and the operational program plan, and then the management of program governance, stakeholder engagement, and leadership of the delivery organization which may include Teradata, Customer, and other partner resources organized into sub-program and project teams under the direct responsibility of Project Managers. The PGM may also act as a Project Management as needed.

The PGM provides overall program leadership, client consultation, and sales support during these engagements, building true partnerships with senior client executives, senior managers in Teradata, and with outside partners and suppliers. The PGM will also support sales in account planning and presales support to position Teradata as the partner of choice in the Data & Analytics space.

The PGM may manage one or more programs of a portfolio of programs and projects, each of which may have a Program and/or Project Managers assigned. He or she will take overall responsibility for planning, organizing and delivering an operational business solution, using his or her experience and thought leadership to establish and develop an appropriate information management strategy for customers.

This role will focus on accounts primarily in the Teradata host country, albeit not necessarily in his or her home city. It may also potentially extend to include any country managed within the host Teradata Region and on programs and for customers where the English language is acceptable. The person should therefore be fluent at least in the language of the host country and English. Other languages would be an advantage.

Key Areas of Responsibility

Leadership: Provide thought leadership to senior responsible owner and senior stakeholders from the customer organization on all aspects of managing a successful implementation, from strategy definition through to measurement of business benefits realization. Lead consulting engagements to establish the vision, blueprint, charter and roadmap for the Data/Analytics program. Ensure that the business solutions delivered are aligned with the customer’s business strategy and that the solution architecture is aligned with the customer’s IT strategy.

Business Development: Identify principal stakeholders and ensure their appropriate level of engagement throughout the program lifecycle and resolve all issues. Manage offer development, support contract negotiations including presentation of sales proposals and support the local team during bid reviews. Support creation of the customer business cases and associated presentations to obtain budgetary approval for the program and for projects within the program. Establish the process for identification and qualification of incremental business improvement opportunities and oversee their integration into the program blueprint and roadmap.

Project Execution: Establish the projects dossier and work with the project manager(s) to ensure these projects are developed in line with the program blueprint and roadmap. Take accountability and ensure the delivery of the business benefits defined in the program blueprint. Define the program organization and management processes including the designation of project managers and assignment of responsibilities. Act as a Project Management when needed. Establish program-level plans and ensure project-level plans comply with standards established for this program, integrating them at the program level. Establish and maintain the resourcing policy throughout the program lifecycle. Lead consulting engagements to establish program governance for client organizations, being compliant with Teradata processes and policies.

Internal Enablement: Contribute and participate in the management of a program management community of interest for the region or area solution team. Participate in the development and communication of Teradata methodologies, processes, IP and best practices. Mentor project managers to execute their sub-programs and projects within the guidelines and standards established for the overall program.

Personal Development: All consultants are expected to build value in themselves. Teradata’s extensive library of both instructor led and web-based training provides ample opportunity for the consultant to build and maintain marketable skills. Time has been allocated specifically for this task and each consultant is expected to have a ‘Learning Plan’. Progress against the learning plan is part of the annual appraisal.

Technical Skills

Analytics and Data Management Technologies: Experience delivering enterprise data and analytics solutions, ideally across an ecosystem of open source and Teradata commercial technologies.

Implementation Approaches: Experience of different implementation options for implementation of data & Analytics solutions, including Waterfall and Agile development techniques and tools, such as PMP, Agile (Scrum, Kanban), SAFe, DevOps, ITIL, JIRA, and an understanding of Teradata ‘s advocated positions and of governance requirements for each one.

Experience and Other Requirements

Experience: minimum of 8 years of relevant experience required.

Certifications: relevant certifications or courses in Project and Program management. Technical knowledge and certifications in the relevant technologies is also considered a plus.

Education: BS, MBA, or MS in business, technical or professional discipline, or equivalent work experience.
