Teradata Labs – PIT Engineering Manager

With primary development center in Hyderabad, and two R&D facilities in Bangalore and Pune the team is in excess of 500 engineers. R&D Labs at Hyderabad is the biggest R&D division outside of San Diego facility, and has teams producing world class features for the Teradata database stack and the recent flagship Vantage product. The Labs team in India work on wide variety of products and technologies including core database internals, both on the server and client side of the Teradata’s world renowned database platform, Aster, Hadoop, Teradata’s cloud offerings and performance engineering

As an Engineering Manager

• Eagerness to apply uncompromised highly technical standards and ideas to maintain the high quality in test strategizing/Testing/Test development in Product Integration Test.
• Manage individual projects, projects priorities, deadlines and deliverables as per Teradata standards. Involve to coach team to improve/maintain the high quality in design, develop, test, deploy & maintenance cycle.
• Inspire, grow, and develop talent while providing vision and setting direction for the team based on organization objectives and lead effectively through outcomes rather than tasks.
• Oversee the test strategy, test design, test quality, Vantage release cycles and operation of product integration test, cloud-based operations/services.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to achieve shared objectives, provide strategic insight and lead continuous improvement efforts in Teradata quality and cloud operations and services.
• Work closely with software engineers, test engineers, technical leads, other partner quality assurance teams, product and feature managers, engineering director and other engineering teams to release high-quality Teradata product through the efficient software project lifecycle (build, test and release on time).

Key Areas of Responsibility:

• Work collaboratively with the program release managers and feature managers to review the various feature content, define test strategy and design and build the product integration testing of the SQL Engine and the Vantage product with focus on the various integration/interactions in the complex product space
• Responsible for recruiting/retaining and building world-class test engineers and test architects with focus on high test automation skills.
• Responsible for the day to day operations of the various contributions from the team to the program/release of the SQL Engine and Vantage test areas.
• Develop and report on key metrics, indicators and improvements enabling data driven decision making
• Provide technical leadership and direction in building the team charter and achieving high quality standards via the outcomes achieved in the test focus areas
• Work collaboratively with the global engineering groups and distributed teams to evolve the integrated tools automation requirements and automation outcomes
• Serve as a project manager, maintains project plans; and reports results as required from the program management
• Drive process improvements and ensures that process and procedure changes are documented and communicated
• Build top talent and lead the team with regular goal setting, training, mentoring/coaching, feedback and relevant best practices associated with people/talent.

Skills & Attributes:

• Excellent hands-on/leadership and rich experiences in test engineering of enterprise products
• Deep technical experience in RDBMS, database internals and analytics and related product areas.
• Working knowledge of Linux and Unix and experience with cloud enablement and associated testing in AWS/Azure space
• Experience with Agile methodologies
• Proven technical and leadership skills
• Very Good written, verbal and presentation skills
• Very good People management skills
• Excellent problem diagnostic/resolution skills and ability to review and approach test on complex feature contents
• Results oriented and keeps quality as priority in Agile/Fail-fast world,
• Passion for improving processes and commitment to quality
• Good organizational and time management skills to work on multiple tasks/projects simultaneously
• Possess the social aptitude to work with geographically distributed and culturally diverse teams

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor's/Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science or Computer Information Systems from an accredited college/university
• 12+ years of experience with software development and/or software test in a product development environment
• 3+ years in a people management role in an enterprise environment
• Experience with administering and managing various engineering tools
• Solid foundation on test automation, database and/or data analytics in an enterprise environment

Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience with scripting languages: Python, Perl, Linux shell
• Experience with Java/Other programming
• Knowledge of DevOps and tools is an added advantage
• Knowledge of Teradata platforms and Data Warehouse solutions
• Experience working in Hybrid cloud environmen
