Position Summary:

 

This position has two main responsibilities.  The first is to, as needed; assess all aspects of a customer's Teradata Analytic environment as it relates to optimization and performance.  To be successful the candidate must combine technical ability, business acumen, an understanding of industry standards, technology trends and relationships with client management, business, and IT staff.   The second responsibility is to expertly implement Teradata Optimize Service Bundles.  The job is 75% travel throughout the United States, Canada, and Central and South America.  Each engagement is typically 1 to 4 weeks but may be 3-4 months or longer if needed. 

 

Specific activities will include:

 

* Evaluate, implement, monitor and adjust Workload Management settings for our highest profile customers across the Americas

* Assist customers and account teams with capacity analysis for their Teradata environments

* Execute high-value performance and platform analytics to help guide customers in the use of their Teradata platform 

* Use collected performance data to analyze a customer's current environment, determine trouble areas, and present and/or implement recommendations - including, but not limited to, CPU and IO usage, user demographics, join paths, data skew, system settings and other aspects of Teradata optimization.

* Prepare and present written analysis and recommendations to various technical and business associates, including senior client executives.

* Develop relationships and coordinate closely with various development departments to understand Teradata features and how those features can benefit performance.

*  Use automated, repeatable industry-independent tools and methodologies that allow for rapid, comprehensive evaluation of the client's current Teradata performance state. 

*  Delivery of various services that include Performance Data Collection and Reporting, Workload Management, Application Performance Tuning, Capacity Planning, and Performance Assessments.   Continue to update and refine these services.  

* Provide a cost-benefit analysis of recommendations 

* Mentor client on Performance best practices and methodologies

* Provide subject matter expertise on engagements

* Mentor junior level consultants on engagements; teach skills to others, share lessons learned

* Responsible for learning and developing skills in technologies such as Hadoop and Teradata Analytics Platform

* Participate in Solution Selling planning meetings as needed

* Provide Teradata optimization consultation/education to Solution Team members

* Identify/communicate engagement service opportunities

* Increase internal/external awareness of Manage and Optimize services 

* Generate revenue and billable hours through a combination of pre-sale and post-sale activities. The average number of billable hours ranges from 1,200 to 1,600 annually.

* Work to pull-through to other/additional solution sales opportunities.

* Coordinate with Managed Services to identify engagement opportunities and leads.

 

Basic Requirements:

  • We do not offer employment sponsorship for this position
  • 10 plus years of Teradata Data Warehousing experience.
  • 5 plus years of Teradata database design, performance tuning, and workload management.
  • 75% Travel Required
  • BA or BS Degree or relevant experience in lieu of

 

Preferred Requirements:

  • Teradata Certified Master
  • 10 plus years of Teradata Data Warehousing experience.
  • 5 plus years of Teradata Capacity Planning, Workload Management, and Performance Tuning.
  • Proficient in Linux
  • Previous work experience as Senior Consultant or Consulting experience i.e. Vendor or consulting firm.
  • Familiar with and can implement the PS Performance Services as Documented.
