Our Team

The Teradata Server Management team supports deployments of our analytic systems to Teradata customers and the Teradata Cloud business.  Our software manages and monitors hardware and software components deployed in various ways into these environments, allowing customers to truly use Teradata everywhere.  Team members develop and deliver custom-written software in combination with open source programs to provide monitoring and management, hardware and software inventory, and integrated alerting functionality for these systems.  The team also owns the connectivity between customer systems and the Teradata IT infrastructure, allowing Teradata to gather telemetry data from customer systems, and allowing our Customer Services analysts to gain access to customer systems in order to resolve issues. It is critical that our software is not only correct and performing, but also scales as our systems grow, both in the data centers and in the cloud.  This software engineer position is responsible for all phases of the software development life cycle from software design through customer support.

Your Opportunity

The Server Management Engineering Team is seeking a highly motivated and creative software engineer/architect to contribute to all phases of the software development lifecycle by designing and coding complex features for the Server Management product.  Familiarity with large code bases, multi-layer architectures, systems-level programming and distributed systems are beneficial. The major area of focus will be designing, coding and testing our next generation core components and enabling delivery on an updated Linux operating system stack. 

Your Business Objectives would include:

  • Responsible for designing, coding, and testing new Server Management product features (C++, Java, GO)
  • Analyze requirements for complex feature development
  • Analyze intelligent devices and software systems to understand how our software can interact with them for status monitoring, asset data capture, and event reporting, as well as telemetry and sensor data collection
  • Assess, refactor and modernize in key areas of our large code base
  • Perform functional and performance analysis of code and correction of defects
  • Support and resolve customer issues
  • Write unit and automated tests for Server Management modules and features and incorporate into our extensive automated test framework
  • Perform release, build, and validation steps for software releases including public cloud machine images
  • Advanced Development activities including technology assessment and Proof of Concept development activities

Experience, skills, and knowledge requirements:

  • Bachelor or Advanced degree in Computer Science or related field
  • Minimum 10 years of related experience
  • 10+ years of experience programming with Java or C++ programming language gained through a combination of academic studies and work experience
  • Experience designing services/subsystems of moderate scope/complexity and with object-oriented design
  • Strong understanding of concurrency and multithreaded programming
  • Strong analytical and debugging skills, familiarity with common language debuggers
  • Working knowledge of LINUX/UNIX operating systems and script languages (bash, python)
  • Knowledge of network protocols and operation
  • Comfortable learning and using low-level system or network interfaces
  • Experience in an Agile development process
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Self-motivated and ability to grasp new concepts and technical skills quickly
  • Highly organized, good time management skills and detail-oriented
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

Additional preferred skills:

  • Strong Java programming skills
  • Experience with GO programming language
  • Interest in and comfort with utilizing multiple programming languages (C++, Java, GO)
  • Architect/Lead Design experience for complex and/or large services/subsystems
  • Strong knowledge of Linux internals
  • Experience with parallel system design, implementation and debugging
  • Interest and experience in Advanced Development
  • Experience developing grpc interfaces and REST APIs
  • Experience with SQL and database technologies
  • Familiarity with virtual machine implementations, e.g. Xen, KVM
  • Familiarity with microservices deployments and containers, e.g. Docker, Kubernetes
  • Experience deploying solutions on public cloud infrastructures, e.g. AWS, Azure
  • Experience with Test Driven Development
