Job Title: Senior Payroll Analyst

Location: San Diego, California

Position Summary

The Senior Payroll Analyst will be responsible for all phases of US payroll processing and tax administration, statutory compliance, tax reporting, as well as reviewing tax remittances and filings in a multi-state environment. In addition, this person will be responsible for payroll accounting to include pay component to GL mapping, including month end accruals, and balance sheet account reconciliation for all payroll and tax balance sheet accounts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Payroll processing for US based employees including: payroll processing, bonus pay processing, payroll tax filing, payroll tax table maintenance and other functions to support payroll processing and adherence to payroll tax legislation. 
  • Reconciliation of payroll register and tax reports to payroll transactions for each pay cycle.
  • Remittances for third party deductions as well as withholding tax and employer payroll tax as required by our business processes as well as federal, state, and local taxing authorities.
  • Review payroll tax filings, reports and documents (940, 941, state, and local) as required by the various taxing authorities.
  • Insure accurate and timely employer payroll expense and tax reporting through the corporate general ledger.
  • Maintain current and accurate payroll balance sheet account reconciliations for all payroll transactions as well as federal, state, and local taxes.
  • Remit payroll deduction to third party service providers based on remittance schedule.
  • Act as key payroll tax liaison with all federal, state, and local taxing authorities and/or 3rd tax service provider. 
  • Insure annual Federal, State, and Local tax returns and documents are accurately reconciled and filed on-time (including employee W2, W2c's and amended tax returns).
  • Work closely with other US payroll team members to research and resolve employee payroll inquiries and issues.
  • Primary responsibility for external payroll tax inquiries and compliance with multi-state payroll tax audit activities

Job Requirements

  • Significant experience with US payroll, in a multi-state environment, as well as tax administration and compliance
  • Significant experience with Federal, State, and Local payroll taxes
  • Working knowledge of business banking procedures and practices relating to funds transfers, wire remittances, and bank account reconciliations
  • Practical experience with -large scale ERP or Payroll software systems
  • Practical experience working with Federal, State, and Local government revenue and tax authorities
  • Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or other related Business discipline (or equivalent years of relevant experience)
  • Extensive knowledge of US payroll processes and practices
  • 5 to 10 years of US payroll processing experience including Federal and State Payroll tax administration in a large multinational company environment
  • Understanding of US GAAP revenue recognition rules, preferably in the software environment
  • Working knowledge of ERP accounting environments/systems – Workday payroll experience a plus
  • Operational accounting and efficiency; process automation experience
  • Ability to play a prominent role as a payroll knowledge expert collaborating with other team members to provide an overall superior payroll service
  • Ability to “take the lead” in researching and resolving payroll problems
  • Ability to take ownership of special projects and effective deliver positive results
  • Technical and comprehensive knowledge of payroll processing and payroll taxes
  • Ability to provide a complete and thorough review of the quarterly and annual payroll tax returns and work with payroll tax vendor on any issues

Ideally you would have:

  • Experience with Workday strongly desired
  • FPC or CPP Accreditation (or working towards completion) is preferred
