Our Team
The Technology & Innovation office (TIO) is leading the charge of empowering analytics at scale through technology and innovation with a goal to harmonize Teradata architectures & capture value from long-term technology trends. To do this, the Technology, Research and Innovation Team (TRI) within TIO seeks a technology enthusiast with a discovery mindset. As a member of the team, you will work collaboratively to evaluate, test, and innovate on a variety of initiatives using new technologies in the areas of cloud, GPUs and data science. You will be part of a team that designs enterprise level initiatives; leads, builds, and coordinates technology proof of concepts (POCs); identifies new technology trends in the areas of database and advanced analytics.
Your Opportunity
As a Research & Innovation Engineer, reporting to the Sr. Director of TRI, your objective is to assess and investigate new technologies, build and coordinate proof of concept prototypes for selected technologies, help integrate new technologies into the existing Teradata ecosystem, and be the integration point for technology, research, and innovation tracking and reporting to senior leadership.

This role also requires a demonstrated ability to successfully drive multiple simultaneous complex initiatives to successful delivery, excellent communication skills and a willingness to provide process guidance to individuals, teams and programs. The most key attributes for this person include someone who is driven by learning about new technologies, has a passion for sharing knowledge and coaching others on how to best leverage technology, identifies and tests technologies for fun, and can presents ideas and initiatives to industry audiences at multiple levels and in multiple forums.
Business Objectives would include:
• Be a leader for the coordination, tracking, planning and implementation of multiple research and innovation activities across Teradata
• Define initiatives tasks and resource requirements as well as identify schedules and delivery dates
• Manage Design History File, Meeting Minutes, Risk Management Files, and project documentation
• Provide direction and support to innovation and research initiative and POC teams
• Constantly monitor and report on progress of research, innovation, and proof of concept initiatives
• Present reports defining research and innovation initiatives’ progress, problems and solutions
• Implement and manage requirements changes and provide interventions to achieve initiatives’ goals
• Provide initiative outcomes, evaluations, and assessment of results
• Support the Senior Director of Technology, Research and Innovation (TRI) in the exploration of new opportunities and technologies aligned with Teradata strategy and ecosystem
• Support the identification of and evaluate technologies that are being considered in strategic acquisitions.
• Assist the Architecture team and Engineering teams with integrating new technologies into Teradata products.
• Stay abreast of new technologies with an eye to integrate into Teradata’s strategies.
• Support the Senior Director of TRI in the evaluation of academic research and alignment to Teradata’s strategy
• Assist in the coordination of technology partnerships
Qualifications:
• Experience in scalable data science and analytics
• Practical in-depth experience with developing scalable, distributed data management systems and techniques to provide high availability
• 5+ years of experience writing C++ and/or python code related to implementing / managing large scale, distributed systems
• Experience with Data/Science Engineering/Management, Software development, Machine Learning, statistics, Linux systems, GitHub, JIRA
• Is effective at managing deliverable and milestones: on time/within budget/meeting business needs
• Effective written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to influence
Desired Education
• A Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline. MS degree desired.
• 2 years of combined technical and relevant program management or engineering management is required for this role.
• Relevant certifications are desirable.
