Job Summary

The Sr. Solution Consultant (SC) is a senior level position that leverages knowledge of customer management and marketing to promote sales of Teradata analytical solutions, specifically the Customer Journey Solution and associated Services. The SC has broad knowledge of the challenges companies face to acquire, engage, grow and retain their customers.   The SC articulates how Teradata Solutions in this space relate to and solve for the challenges these companies experience, delivering critical Business Outcomes. The SC establishes or enhances customer relationships with both Business and Technical stakeholders as needed for each opportunity. The goal for the Solution Consultant is to establish credibility and trust so that the customer views the Teradata Solution offering positively, with the specific objective of moving each opportunity to a closed sale. Common activities include discovery sessions, presentations and meetings, both virtual and in-person. The Sr. Solution Consultant is a vital part of the pre-sale team and is expected to provide internal strategic recommendations to the sales team to help them move to the sale. In addition, the SC frequently plays a role in post-sale activity, ensuring a long-term partnership with Teradata customers. Other locations for this position could be Cincinnati Ohio, Chicago Illinois, or other major cities in Central US

Overall Job Purpose:

  • Serves as a trusted business solution advisor to client, identifying specific challenges and leading with Business Outcomes-based solutions.
  • Seeks to drive sales of Teradata products, solutions, and services as well as increase use of Teradata systems (drive TCore)
  • Demonstrates technical expertise, establishes credibility with both technical resources, business stakeholders and decision makers
  • Achieves expert status on common client marketing ecosystem components, including competitor products
  • Partners with account relationship lead on account planning and strategy
  • Works with overall account team to identify sales opportunities
  • Supports the selling process for software and services 

Key Responsibilities  

  • Understand the specific marketing and customer engagement challenges of the prospect and determine how Teradata Solutions (products and services) can solve these challenges, delivering critical Business Outcomes.
  • Gather business and application requirements to facilitate the buying process with prospective and current Teradata customers.
  • Act as a Subject Matter Expert on marketing solutions in sales settings.
  • Provide customized presentations, white board sessions, product demonstrations and general sales support in interactions with prospective customers.
  • Act as a consultant by analyzing particular vertical market and technical matters with our customers and prospects.
  • Effectively demonstrate and communicate the capabilities and value of the Teradata Customer Journey Solution to deliver critical Business Outcomes.
  • Respond to RFx’s and coordinate overall functional and technical responses.
  • Feed knowledge gained from customers and prospects back to the Product Management team.
  • Maintain deep technical knowledge of the Customer Journey Solution and it’s key components.
  • Regularly meets with account team lead to discuss account strategy and future sales opportunities for assigned accounts.

Work Environment

The Solution Consultant will work from a virtual (home) office with considerable time required meeting in person with customers and for Teradata internal meetings and training. Up to 60% travel is required, dependent on account responsibilities/activities and location from home office.  Position can be located in most major cities in the central US including Dallas, Cincinnati, and Chicago.

Skills and Experience

  • Solid understanding of integrated marketing and customer management systems such as the Teradata Customer Journey Solution.
  • Strong technical and business knowledge in relevant areas (real time marketing, campaign management, event based marketing, customer data management and related areas)
  • Technical sales or presales experience
  • Well-developed communication and presentation skills
  • Demonstrated history of driving sales

Basic Qualifications

  • Ten years or more of experience with enterprise class marketing solutions
  • Strong understanding of marketing ecosystem components and data flows, digital channel applications, Teradata database and related open source technologies.
  • Client interface and consulting skills required with experience in large enterprises (Fortune 500 scale)
  • BA or BS in Business or Computer Science

Preferred Skills and Qualifications

  • MBA or other related Master’s Degree
  • Previous Solution Consultant role at a marketing applications or customer management solution software company
  • Hands-on working knowledge of large scale marketing solutions in production
  • Experience in Executive communication sessions
  • Previous experience working with customers in one or more of the following industries:
  • Financial Services
  • Telecommunications/Media
  • Retail
  • Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG)
  • Other consumer-driven industries
