The Pre-Sales Solution Architect (SA) is a senior level position that leverages Big Data, data warehouse and analytical technical knowledge to promote sales of Teradata analytical solutions. The SA has broad knowledge of the Big Data, data warehouse and analytic space, and experience with Teradata products and technologies. The SA articulates analytical ecosystem architectures and trends, and provides technical consulting as a trusted advisor to support sales activities. The SA establishes and enhances customer relationships ranging from DBA to CIO, and provides technical expertise on engagements and identifies new target opportunities within our accounts. 

Overall Job Purpose: 

  • Serves as trusted technical advisor to client
  • Drives sales of Teradata products, solutions, and services as well as increase use of Teradata systems through value-add opportunities 
  • Demonstrates technical expertise, establishes credibility with customers, both technical resources and decision makers
  • Understands and advises customers on analytical ecosystem architectures 
  • Partners with account team on account planning and strategy 
  • Works with overall account team to identify sales opportunities 
  • Supports the selling process for hardware, software, and services

Key Responsibilities 

  • Spends significant time working with technical client resources who use Teradata UDA components or technology to understand how they are used, what data is on them, and how they might be improved 
  • Documents client’s current analytical framework/architecture and organizational data flow 
  • Understands available Teradata analytics solutions and service offerings and how they could be applied to client business problems
  • Manages relationships with client stakeholders as the key advisor on analytics and architecture
  • Creates client interest in Teradata analytics solutions, advancing the sales process 
  • Works closely with account team lead to discuss account strategy and future sales opportunities 
  • Identifies analytical consulting service selling opportunities and participates in the sales process as needed
  • Being a trusted advisor to the customer’s decision-makers by establishing credibility and expertise in analytical ecosystem architecture, marketing analysis and automation systems, customer profitability solutions, and other areas related to Teradata’s solution offerings
  • Timely, accurate administration & reporting (PSA, expenses, forecasts, etc.)

Essential Functions and Skills

 

Candidates should meet the following qualifications and education requirements:

  • BS in Computer Science, or comparable experience 
  • Five years or more of operational or technical experience in data warehousing or big data implementation with use of Open Source tools and heterogeneous large-scale enterprise data implementation. 
  • Strong understanding of Data Warehouse and Analytical ecosystem architectures that include functions such as data acquisition, data containers, analytical tools, end user consumption, and data governance 
  • Client interface and consulting skills required, with special focus on clear communications 
  • Experience with data management technologies such as Hadoop and/or Big Data Discovery environments 
  • Proven capabilities in relational database and application development environments using (Teradata, DB2, Oracle, Hadoop, Spark, etc.) and operational knowledge of third party data transformation and BI tools (COGNOS, Business Objects, Informatica, etc.) 
  • Significant experience supporting analytical applications and working with advanced analytics professionals 

Preferred Skills and Qualifications 

  • MBA or other related Master’s Degree 
  • Hands-on experience with developing predictive analytical models, machine learning 
  • Hands-on experience with emerging technologies such as Spark 
  • Previous Solution Architect role at an analytical hardware and/or software company 
  • Hands-on working knowledge with the Teradata RDBMS and other RDBMS
  • Experience in Executive communication sessions 


Work Environment

The Solution Architect will work from a virtual (home) office with considerable time required onsite with customer(s).  25%+ travel is required. A combination of independent work and team collaboration will be required.
