External Description:

Position Summary 

This role is responsible to manage the Linux Environment which is used for Data Warehousing solution and supported ecosystems.

The Linux Admin will serve as the central point of contact for Database and other application team. The successful candidate possesses the excellent interpersonal and communication skills required to collaborate with other teams and provide necessary support from Operating System perspective.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborating with the Teradata Customer Support and Database team to maintain Infrastructure architecture and maturity standards.  Monitors and reports on adherence and recommends improvements
  • Reviewing of all the error logs and fixing it is another duty along with providing superior customer support for Database Customers on troubleshooting escalated support troubles.
  • Every Linux administrator is responsible for installing the necessary procedures and security tools. He works with the Data Network Engineer and other personnel/departments to analyze hardware requirements and alternatives and make acquisition recommendations.
  • Linux administrator’s duty is to upgrade the software installed on to the server.
  • Ability to work with Linux-friendly applications and able to troubleshoot it when issue arises from the server.

Education and Experience 

  • 2-8 years of experience with Managing Suse Linux Environment
  • Package Management using Yum and Zypper
  • Experience in Package Management
  • Experience in File System Management and Volume Management
  • Experience in Bash Scripting
  • Experience in installing and configuring third party monitoring tool i.e. Nagios, Solarwinds, Icinga
  • Experience in using IDS/IPS tool like Tripwire
  • Strong understanding of DNS & NTP
  • Experience in hardening the OS
  • Managing OS native services NTP, DNS, LDAP
  • Should have good understanding of Networking aspects i.e. TCP/IP stack, troubleshooting routing and networking connectivity issue
  • Should have strong OS administration skills on Linux
  • Experience in Linux OS installation, Software and Patch management
  • Should know how to debug/troubleshoot CPU, Memory, Disk issues
  • Good knowledge about the Linux system files, boot process and Run levels
  • Familiar with the configuration and maintenance of server and network hardware and peripherals
  • Hands-on experience of system management, system setup and managing Linux
  • Good understanding of Backup & Storage
  • Experience in Remote Server Management using DRAC
  • Monitoring various hardware issue i.e. CPU failure, CPU Fan Failure, Memory Module failure, RAID failure etc..
  • Understanding of VMware Architecture
  • Experience in Managing and Monitoring VMs, Storage and Switch
  • Experience in VMotion and Storage VMotion
  • Managing DRS setting and HA configurations
  • Managing VM lifecycle from Build to Decommission
  • Mandatory Certification
    • SUSE certified Administrator/SUSE certified Engineer (or)
    • RHCE – Red Hat Certified Engineer
  • Knowledge of AWS Administration will be added advantage
