Job Title: Senior Competitive Technology Analyst

Location: San Diego, CA or Remote / Virtual

Overview:

The position is for a Senior Competitive Technology Analyst with strong technical knowledge of competitor’s product capabilities relative to Teradata as well as competitor’s marketing, product positioning and sales strategies. This role will understand, prepare for and respond to key Teradata competitors.

In order to advise Teradata field (Sales and Solution Architect), technical, marketing and product management staff on strategies for competing with other products and technologies, a successful candidate should have knowledge and experience with contemporary analytic and data warehousing platform architectures and operations, especially in the public cloud. 

You Will:

• Provide both low level technical insight, and also be able to use this detailed knowledge and experience to articulate higher level comparative advantages and disadvantages of these products and technologies relative to Teradata’s platforms.
• When possible, perform hands on testing with the primary cloud analytics competitors and alternative technologies to assess their capabilities and performance.
• Document, post and communicate feature/function and performance analysis for competitive offerings for use by other Teradata organizations.
• Partner with Teradata field personnel (Sales and Solution Architects) in account planning and competitive sales situations.
• Assist Product Marketing and Product Management to understand the positioning of technologies that would be considered competitors to Teradata’s products.
• Attend vendor and industry conferences to gather information and insight on the relevant, competitive technologies.
• Based on your experience, knowledge, current, publicly available information, vendor actions, and known business transactions, provide insight into possible future competitor technology offerings in the form of white papers, internal blogs, presentations and participation on internal working groups.

Requirements:

• BS Degree in Computer Science or related
• 10 years overall technical/hands on experience with contemporary data warehousing and analytics data platforms
• Experience as a customer of these technologies
• Competitive analysis experience of 3 or more years in analytics and data warehousing platforms
• Ability to research (sometimes using hands on testing including use of public cloud services)
• Ability to compare and contrast competing products and technologies
• Effectively prepare and deliver the findings of this analysis via verbal (e.g. presentations) and written (e.g. white papers) communications throughout Teradata

Ideally you would have:

• Experience with Teradata platforms
• Experience with cloud, Oracle or open source data warehousing and analytics platforms
• Understanding related technologies such as BI and/or ETL tools
• Understanding of emerging advanced analytics platforms and tools
• Experience with the planning and execution of competitive benchmarks for analytic and data warehousing systems
• Experience with evaluating to recommending alternative analytics and data warehousing technologies, platforms and vendors
• Proven ability to provide ad hoc consultative expertise
• Emerging data management technologies (Hadoop, Spark, etc.) and open source technologies, performance tuning, resource management, and the hardware that supports these systems
